Samsung’s rugged Galaxy Tab Active is headed to India

Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Tab Active will go on sale in India in the near future. The Korean company hasn’t provided an exact launch timeline for the rugged device yet, but it has given us the all-important pricing information.

The Galaxy Tab Active will be offered for INR 52,000, which is equal to approximately $836 or €738. So it will be anything but cheap.

That said, the Tab Active is mainly targeted at the enterprise market anyway, and enterprise customers are generally a lot less price sensitive than average consumers. This tablet’s main claim to fame is obviously its ruggedness. Other than that, it’s basically just a Galaxy Tab 4 8.0.

It has IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, and it features an anti-shock cover. Thanks to this, Samsung claims it can be dropped from up to 1.2m without incurring any damage. The rugged cover also houses a slot for the C Pen stylus, which certain professionals will find very useful.

The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat and it comes with an 8-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, a 3.1 MP rear camera, a 1.2 MP front snapper, and a 4,450 mAh battery. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 SoC with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU in tow.
