There have been rumours of a rift, but according to Selena Gomez she and Taylor Swift have been close friends for many years.
And
on Friday Selena sat down to chat with the hosts of show The Talk where
she discussed her friendship with the Shake It Off singer.
The
22-year-old actress and pop singer, who recently split from her on-off
boyfriend Justin Bieber, admits the blonde hitmaker, 24, believes she
will benefit from ditching people who no longer boost her life and
career.
Her BFF: Selena sat down with the
hosts of show The Talk where she discussed her friendship with Taylor
Swift. The two singers, seen at the MTV Music Awards in August 2013,
have been close friends for many years
Selena
sat down with Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Aisha Taylor, Sara Gilbert
and Sheryl Underwood where they covered Taylor's recent advice.
The
Monte Carlo star explained: 'She [Swift] was actually at my house the
other day, and we were sitting by the fire and I was talking about
relationships and business in my life.
'She
just kind of looked at me and was like, "Selena, if you're the smartest
person in the room, I think you're going to be in the wrong room."'
'She
thinks I should constantly surround myself with people who are going to
make me better, that are going to challenge and motivate me.'

Taylor's
words had an impact on her chum, with Selena adding: 'It kind of stuck
to me. I want to surround myself with those people.'
However,
the Come & Get It songstress insists Taylor, who was reportedly
against her dating Justin, 20, will always stand by and support her
regardless of her life choices.
Selena added: 'She supports me and never judges me.'
Meanwhile,
relationship advice isn't the only thing Taylor has been giving her pal
as she has also been trying to persuade Selena, who recently moved out
of her parents' house and into her own property in Los Angeles, to set
up home in New York.
Gomez
said previously: 'She's been begging me [to move to New York] every
time we get on the phone, because it's been a really good thing for
her.'

Taylor has been doling out advice to more than just her best friends.
During
the X Factor Australia finale on Monday night, which included a special
performance from Swift, the 24-year-old songstress was greeted by
roaring cheers from the audience as she took to the stage to sing her
latest hit single Shake It Off.
Afterwards, the singer gave a couple sage words of advice to the competition's winner.
'I think never assuming that you are entitled to anything is very important,' she said.
The
blonde bombshell added: 'Also treating people well, not just people who
you think can help you but generally treating everybody well.'
