Aguero 4 vs Tottenham 1

Substitution Yaya Touré
Fernando
75′
Assist Fernandinho
75′
Goal Sergio Agüero: 4 - 1
75′
AGUERO 4, TOTTENHAM 1! The Argentine times his run to perfection, breaks into the area, beats Vertonghen and curls past Lloris, just inside the far post. It is a picture of perfection from Kun Aguero, who has put on one heck of a show here today.
74′
Tottenham awarded a free kick from 35 yards out. They commit men forward in the area for Eriksen to whip in a cross, but his delivery is quite poor as it strikes the wall before City clear.
72′
STAT ATTACK: This is only the second game in Premier League history to see the award of four penalties. Bradford v Derby in 2000 is the other. (via Opta Stats)
70′
Substitution Stevan Jovetic
David Silva
70′
Substitution Jan Vertonghen
Ryan Mason
70′
Tottenham make their final change, and it is hardly one Pochettino would have wanted to make. His hand is forced here with the sending off of Fazio, as he reluctantly brings on Jan Vertonghen to fill the void at the back, with Ryan Mason the one to give way.
68′
Penalty Goal Sergio Agüero: 3 - 1 GOAL! City surely look to have all three points now, as Aguero slots home, sending Lloris the wrong way to double the hosts' lead and complete his hat-trick.
67′
Red Card Federico Julián Fazio City break into the penalty area, and Aguero is taken down from behind by Fazio, as a ball is played to him in the centre. This time Moss not only awards the penalty, but shows Fazio a red card! Tottenham down to 10-men!
66′
PENALTY TO CITY! THE FOURTH ONE AWARDED TODAY BY JONATHAN MOSS!
64′
HART IS AT IT AGAIN! Rose sends a ball into the area that Soldado meets with a slide. He makes good contact, but Hart makes an even better save!
62′
Missed Penalty Roberto Soldado
62′
PENALTY TO TOTTENHAM! It is a real controversial decision from the referee. Demichelis looks to have accidentally clipped the heels of Soldado on the edge of the area, but the contact looks to have come a foot outside the box, with the Spaniard going to ground real easily.
61′
Tottenham make a double switch in an attempt to get back into this game, and Townsend wins a free kick straight away. Eriksen delivers into the area, and Kaboul heads back into a dangerous area, but there is no one waiting to attack it.
60′
Substitution Andros Townsend
Erik Lamela
60′
Substitution Mousa Dembélé
Etienne Capoue
59′
Has to be better from Navas! Rose has ventured forward well in this second half, but looks disinterested in tracking back, which has afforded Navas acres of space on the right. They break again through the Spaniard who has all the time in the world. He surges into the area, but again fails to really trouble Lloris with his shot.
57′
APPEALS FOR A HANDBALL! Tottenham get back into attack and Rose delivers a wonderful ball in for Soldado, who somehow fails to make contact with it. Lamela keeps the ball for the visitors and picks out Eriksen, who has his shot blocked. They shout for a handball but nothing is given by Moss.

55′
Yellow Card Jesús Navas González
55′
Successive corners won by Tottenham via Rose and Soldado. Lamela's delivery is poor and the hosts break on a counter, but Eriksen does very well to track back and dispossess Aguero, before Navas is called for a foul as he takes down Chadli trying to win the ball back.
53′
WHERE IS DANNY ROSE?! The left-back is nowhere to be found as City break down the right flank through Navas. They are in three against two, but the Spaniard's pass in for Silva is not great, as the attack eventually fizzles out. But far too much space afforded to the defending champions by Tottenham, with Danny Rose caught wildly out of position.
51′
Right back come City and Sagna gets it inside the right of the penalty area. He sends a low cross in for Aguero at the near post, but the striker turns it wide under considerable pressure from the defence.
50′
MAGNIFICENT SAVE! Aguero is at it again for the Citizens! He picks up a ball and takes a few strides at the defence. He finds space for a shot and unleashes a bullet towards goal. It is struck with real pace, and there is plenty of movement behind it, but Lloris manages to adjust and just keep it out!
48′
Good defending early on by Kaboul as he keeps pace with Aguero, stride for stride, to break up a threatening move after a long ball forward looked to send the Argentine striker through on goal for a chance at the hat-trick.
46′
Tottenham get the second half underway at the Etihad! No changes to tell you about from either side at the break.

City can also draw more than a few positives from the first half. They have been far from their best, yet still find themselves in front, and will consider themselves unlucky not to be two or three goals ahead at the moment. Sergio Aguero looks unstoppable, and the team looks incredibly dangerous as a whole with their quick transition play.

They may be behind, but there are plenty of positives for Tottenham to draw from after 45 minutes. They have posed much more of a threat going forward, and despite conceding twice, have only been undone once from open play, by a wonderful bit of skill from Aguero.

HALF TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 2-1 TOTTENHAM. There has been a stunning flow to this match through 45 minutes, with both sides causing quite a stir in attack. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring early on with a brilliant individual effort, only for Eriksen to pull the visitors level almost immediately. The Argentine was back at it shortly after, putting City ahead after Lampard won a penalty, and then nearly doubled the hosts lead from the spot yet again, but Lloris was up to the task.
45′ + 3
NEARLY IN! City break again with incredible pace through Navas. The Spaniard picks out Fernandinho, who instead of having a shot, lays it off for Milner. The midfielder pushes it forward and sends a cross back into the centre, with Lloris caught out at the near post. Aguero is waiting in the middle, but cannot get his head to it as Tottenham clear!
45′ + 2
Into the second of three minutes of added time, as a Chadli cross runs behind for a goal kick. City push forward one last time before the interval, but Navas is manhandled along the right, running the ball out of play, with no foul given.
45′
Milner does incredibly well to track back and slide in to dispossess Capoue in midfield. He starts City forward in numbers, with Navas streaking into the area. The Spaniard strikes towards goal, but his effort needs to be better, making for an easy save by Lloris who tips over for a corner.
44′
Eriksen making some wonderful runs forward, proving a handful to deal with for these City defenders. Tottenham are mustering one final push before the break in an attempt to pull themselves level.
42′
SAVED AGAIN! Eriksen breaks into the are and cuts it back for Lamela. Kompany slides in to clear, but it falls for Mason at the top of the box. The midfielder smacks a half-volley towards goal, but Hart gets across to keep it out!
40′
ERIKSEN! The Danish midfielder runs at the defence with real intent, stepping to his right and unleashing a drive from 30 yards out. Hart is never really tested, but is forced to push it behind for a corner. Lamela delivers, and again the keeper is out to punch clear.
38′
The game has started to get a bit chippy now as Capoue makes a harsh tackle on Silva. It certainly looked like a lazy challenge, with no intention on getting the ball, but Moss has not seen it as such as the midfielder escapes without a caution.
37′
Yellow Card Eric Dier
36′
Eric Dier becomes the second Tottenham player to be booked as he tugs on the shirt of Clichy, who was through into space along the left. It is a cynical challenge from the right-back, but an important one to keep City from catching Spurs at the back yet again.
34′
WONDERFUL STOP! Aguero looks unstoppable at the moment! He takes a pass and breaks into the area one-on-one against Kaboul. He makes quick work of the defender, but cannot beat Lloris with his shot, the Frenchman getting down to his right to keep it out!
33′
Yellow Card Ryan Mason
32′
Missed Penalty Sergio Agüero
32′
ANOTHER PENALTY TO CITY! This one is a much easier call for Moss to make. City break with such pace, leaving Tottenham stretched at the back. Silva takes a pass in the area and Kaboul slides in, making no contact with the ball. He knew he was in trouble there.
30′
Kompany lunges into the back of Chadli, who did well to turn and shield the ball. It is a needless foul from the City skipper, who concedes a free kick 30 yards out. Eriksen takes, but from a difficult angle, his effort sails high and wide at the near post.
28′
Substitution Fernandinho
Frank Lampard
28′
Lovely applause from both sets of fans as Lampard is taken off on a stretcher. With his loan deal set to expire in the winter, one has to wonder if this is his last contribution to a Premier League match. Fernandinho is on to replace him.
26′
City put the ball out of play as Frank Lampard is down, clutching his left thigh. He looks in some real pain, trying to get back up, unsuccessfully. The training staff come out and this one does not look good for the former Chelsea midfielder.
24′
NEARLY THREE! Again Navas does well to create space on the right. He eludes Fazio and sends a fine ball in for Aguero, but the strikers first time shot is straight at Lloris, who denies the Argentine a hat-trick... at least for the time being.
22′
Looking for a third goal, City get right back into attack. Aguero makes a nice run through the heart of midfield, but cannot pick out a good enough pass for Silva, in yards of space in the area, as Tottenham manage to clear.
20′
Penalty Goal Sergio Agüero: 2 - 1 GOAL! Sergio Aguero makes no mistake, sending Lloris the wrong way, slotting home confidently in the bottom left corner and City have their lead restored after just five minutes!
19′
PENALTY TO CITY! Lamela lunges into the back of Lampard, who goes to ground immediately, and referee Jonathan Moss does not hesitate to award the hosts a spot kick.
17′
It would have been all too easy for Tottenham to crumble after the early Aguero goal. They could have cowered after shades of last season, but a stunning response, in the home of the defending champions, has them right back in this match!
15′
Assist Roberto Soldado
15′
Goal Christian Eriksen: 1 - 1 Fernando is far too casual with the ball in his own end, as Lamela slides in to dispossess. Soldado picks up the ball and runs into the area, laying it off for Eriksen who blasts it home past Hart. It is a vital response from the visitors!
15′
TOTTENHAM RESPOND WITHIN A MINUTE!
13′
Assist Frank Lampard
13′
Goal Sergio Agüero: 1 - 0 Lampard picks out Aguero to his left. The striker stops the ball and looks to take on Kaboul. He pauses for only a moment, before nudging the ball to his right and picking out the far corner. It is as easy as it gets for the Argentine. Top stuff from a top class striker.
13′
JUST LIKE THAT, CITY ARE IN FRONT!
11′
Lovely work by Navas in the area as he gets by Fazio with some clever footwork and sends a teasing ball across the face of goal. It is not attacked by City, however, as Lloris is able to collect and sniff out the danger.
9′
OFFSIDE! City push forward looking for a response. Aguero makes a towering run into the box and cuts it back for Silva. The Spaniard is in prime position for a shot from in close, but opts to try and pick out a return pass. He does find Aguero, but the flag is up for offside as Lloris makes the save anyhow.
7′
IMPORTANT SAVE! Tottenham can be very encouraged by their start here today. The visitors look to have a spring in their step, with City yet to wake up. Soldado sends a lovely ball through for Mason, who cannot beat Hart with the goal at his mercy. Hart makes a fine save, but the youngster really needs to be finishing there.
5′
Sagna gets forward and he is picked out by Navas. Rose manages to sniff out the danger and clear, but Fernando wins the ball back in midfield. The hosts concede possession and Chadli breaks. He cuts back for Mason, but the midfielder shoots well wide from outside the box.
3′
The Citizens were up 1-0 at this stage last year, so the start from Tottenham has, according to the numbers, been better. They have yet to really secure possession as the hosts push forward on two separate occasions, only to see their final ball cleared by Lloris and Fazio respectively.
1′
Manchester City kick-off and we are underway at the Etihad! The hosts, moving left to right, are sporting their sky blue kits, with Tottenham in all black.
