A 2.4-metre-tall statue of Cristiano Ronaldo has been unveiled by the Real Madrid star in his native Madeira.

The bronze effigy, weighing in at around 800 kilograms, was sculpted to add to the extensive collection of memorabilia at the Portuguese forward’s personal museum.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner was part of the Real Madrid side which became world champions on Saturday by beating San Lorenzo 2-0 in the Club World Cup final in Marrakech. And within 24 hours he was back in his homeland to reveal the new addition in Funchal in front of a huge crowd in the Madeiran capital of Funchal.

“This is a very special moment, to have a statue of me,” Ronaldo told the assembled masses, which included his tearful mother Dolores.

The CR7 museum already boasts golden boots, signed balls and various medals collected by the Portugal captain over the course of his career, while there are also many photographs from the player’s career.

Ronaldo also received the Cordao Autonomico during the trip to his native Madeira. The medal of honour is the highest distinction awarded by the local government.
