Charlotte Hawkins reveals she underwent emergency blood transfusion during traumatic two-day labour

She has stunned viewers with her polished appearance as she returned to work last week just five months after giving birth to daughter Ella-Rose.
But Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins reveals she has struggled to get back to normality after a traumatic two-day labour left her seriously ill.
The 40-year-old was thrilled to discover she was pregnant after years of unsuccessfully trying to conceive with husband of seven years Mark Herbert.

She went into hospital in February and thought the excruciating experience was part of the process, but soon discovered things had gone wrong.
After 48 hours of trying to give birth, her body went into shock, and doctors eventually rushed to give her an emergency blood transfusion after she lost over a litre of blood.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror's Clemmie Moodie, she explained: 'My labour was relatively long and my iron levels had dropped so much that after the birth, my body started going into shock.
“I felt really tired, absolutely exhausted, but thought that was just how you felt after labour… but apparently it’s not!

“We had a lot of faith in the medical team looking after us, so once they’d explained it all, and that I wouldn’t be allowed home until after the transfusion, we got it. But it did take me a little while to get back on my feet afterwards.'
The popular broadcaster, who was poached from Sky by ITV bosses when Daybreak was relaunched as Good Morning Britain in 2014, is certainly back to her best as she made a stunning return to screens last week.
Charlotte has showed off her slim figure in a series of figure-hugging floral dresses as she gets back to business quizzing guests on the sofa.
However, she found herself on the other side this week when she gave an emotional interview to This Morning.

During her appearance on Tuesday, she broke down talking about her father Frank's death from motor neurone disease, just weeks before his granddaughter was born.
Charlotte revealed that the birth of her daughter had helped her family come to terms with their grief.
He died literally a month before she was born, which was difficult emotionally,’ Charlotte said. ‘But she [Ella Rose] has been a real positive focus for the family, and brings home to you the fragility of life in a sense.'
Before adding: ‘It’s the circle of life, my dad leaving us and her arriving.’
