Tim Sherwood has reiterated his desire to keep reported Liverpool target Christian Benteke at Villa Park.
Reports in this morning’s papers suggest Liverpool are ready to match the Belgium international’s buy-out clause but speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Sherwood said the club are desperate to keep hold of the 24-year-old.
“We want Christian here,” he said. “We want to keep our best players and Christian is certainly one of those.”
Meanwhile, Sherwood is confident Aston Villa can wrap up a deal Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye, despite work permit issues.
He added: “It looks that way. We are hoping for him to sign. There are work permit issues but I think we’ll be alright with that one.”
